NOTHING IS SACRED
Would-be thieves are no respecters of property, but when someone tries to break into an Undertaker's private ambulance - a Toyota Previa parked in the courtyard of his chapel - you do realise that nothing today is sacrosanct. But Mr Gluck the undertaker had been a victim of car theft once before and had had SupaGlass fitted to the Previa's glass. "A truly amazing product," he says.
For 11 years Harold Gluck has served the people of north London as proprietor of Carmel Funeral Services. On the day of the attempted break-in he was working in the funeral parlour when he thought he heard a noise outside in the courtyard. "I went outside and could see nothing, so came back in again." He then heard another noise and again went outside. "All I could see were some people outside on the road with what looked like a break-down vehicle - one that takes away cars." He thought nothing more of it and went back to work.
Twenty minutes later he went out to the Previa and for the first time noticed that someone had obviously tried to break into the passenger window by hitting it twice with what - from the look of the damage - could have been a hammer. The window had shattered but was held in place by the SupaGlass laminate. "If they had managed to get in they would have taken the radio and the navigation system," said Mr Gluck. "I'd had a navigation system stolen before which was why I had SupaGlass fitted in the first place. I just could not believe how lucky I had been to avoid that."
You may feel that luck didn't have anything to do with it. You may also wonder if, with the low loader parked outside, Mr Gluck would have lost rather more than his navigation system. Who knows? Suffice it to say, he immediately had the new window protected by SupaGlass.
"SupaGlass performed superbly," says Mr Gluck. "And of course, I have recommended it to my friends and colleagues and will continue to do so."
